Let Them Chilly Winds Blow
With temperatures hovering about the freezing point, snow flurries and wind gusts of 15 to 20 mph, it's a little raw today. But -- good news -- I found some signs of spring today!
Here's a Lenten Rose (this one happens to be a Black Hellebore) that is in full bloom down by an old black locust log.
And, the first batch of daffodils have made their appearance.
Other plants are beginning to poke through. The sweet woodruff, Celandine poppy, trout lillies, dead nettle, wood spurge, mountain mint, columbine and iris are sprouting here and there. And, on the arbor, light green leaf tips have appeared on the "honeysuckle from an old churchyard in Culpepper, Virginia" that we paid good money for down at Niche Gardens in Chatham County. Who could turn down a plant with a moniker like that, even if it is honeysuckle? That's some good marketing, I tell you!
Hey, them Hippies have got to eat, too.
