Fire Documented
Well, my Letter to the Editor finally made the Alleghany News. And, so did a story entitle "Brush fire is reported March 18 near Parkway". Had the piece not said "the land was the property of David Lineback", I've not certain I would have associated it with "our" fire. It opens "About four or five acres were scorched ...". Hmmm, ours was 0.5 acres, max. The forest ranger said that the burn will actually be helpful.
The story goes on to say the fire started at 4:00 pm, while my cell phone says I made the 911 call at about 5:00. It says they were on the scene for four or four-and-a-half hours. They were gone at 8:30.
And, it goes without saying, I'm a little concerned about the use of the tense of the "to be" verb regarding ownership.
You just cannot believe whsat you read in the newspapers these days!
