Jake Sez Life Is Good
What a great day on the mountain!
The last light has just gone from the sky at 9:45pm after a beautiful sunset.
As the sun was disappearing behind Betsy's Peak, the CFO and I were sitting on the deck, enjoying a dinner of "Black and Blue" burgers, oven fries, a jar of Hiatt's bread and butter pickles and a jug of mango margaritas. It don't get no better than that!
Earlier in the day I had played a round of golf at High Meadows. The course is in spectacular shape and I played my best round of the spring, making a number of really nice saves. But, alas, the holes were only a few blades of grass wider than a golf ball today and the result was a mediocre score of 89 with no putts made longer than 4 feet. Never the less, we had a really good foresome, the day was sunny with temperatures between 65 and 75 and a gentle breeze, and I thoroughly enjoyed today's play.
Last weekend, the new leaves on the trees almost looked as it was fall with their yellowish cast. This weekend they were that bright green that new leaves have in late spring. And, many flowers are already in bloom.
The wild flame azaleas startle the eye throughout the woods.
Delicate little bluettes poke up around the margins of the trees.
Catawba rhododendrons are beginning to bloom in sunny spots.
And, the wild ferns are now in full plummage.
The mountain magnolias are begining to bloom. The explosion of great rhododendrons, mountain laurel and countless wild flowers are not far behind.
Like, Jake sez, "life is good" in the mountains in the springtime.
