MST South

The CFO and I hiked the new section of the Mountain to Sea Trail to the south of Air Bellows Gap today.

It's similar to the section to the north but basically follows the boundry line between the Blue Ridge Parkway and the 6276-acre Thurmond-Chatham Gamelands.

The markers on the gameland side, do get your attention! We didn't see any bears, not that Sam didn't try to scare one up for us.

The trail follows the ridgeline for a short distance along a wall of gneiss overthrust dating from 250 million years ago.

This section of the MST is a pleasant little hike of less than an hour from Air Bellows Gap to the Brinegar Cabin at MP 238.5.

At the Brinegar Cabin, the MST hooks up with the 7.5-mile Bluff Mountain Trail.
