Fat Rat
Now, folks, we are blessed here in the mountains with an abundance of white-footed field mice (Peromyscus leucopus). They are cute as a button but have a habit of eating any and everything resembling a seed. Pecans, peanuts, cornmeal, flour, you name it. They are entirely nocturnal and you seldom actually see them. But, they leave lots of little "calling cards" just to let you know they're still with you.
In the summertime, these mice generally head for the great outdoors but a couple of them were really lazy and decided to stay inside because that's where Dave's pantry is located. So, night before last, I set traps baited with yummy peanut butter as a Last Supper for our little house guests. Licked the peanut butter clean without releasing the rath and fury of a single Victor.
So, last night I switched to Swiss cheese. Whap! Missed the mouse completely but there it was all balled up. Dead. The only thing I can figure is that the thing was so fat that the sound caused it to have a massive coronary and die right there on the kitchen floor at 3:00 in the morning.
What a way to go!
