Back on the Mountain
Man, it's good to be back on the mountain after a 17-day sojourn in the flatlands. That was way too long!
Beau, Sam, Suzy Q and I left late this afternoon and ran into a wicked storm in Greensboro. It one of those black ones you can see from a distance that makes you wonder if you really want to drive into it. The storm did not disappoint with sharp lightening, strong winds and heavy rains. Fortunately, all the activity was associated with a fast moving cold front and did not last long. By the time we got to Little Richards in Winston-Salem for some barbecue, only a light drizzle lingering to keep the curb service boy running from car to car.
On the petroleum front, we bought name-brand gasoline in Yadkinville for $2.099 per gallon. Seems cheap anymore, doesn't it?
The same storm we encountered down below came through the mountains about 4:30 this afternoon. It kinda interesting to look at my weather station history for today (www.wunderground.com). The barometric pressure which had been dropping all day, rose slightly when the sharp cold front arrived. The temperature drop from 62°F to 54°F in 10 minutes, and a stiff wind with gusts of up to 34 mph blew in from the northwest. And, then it rained for a hour or so. Just like it's suppose to happen. Ain't science wonderful?
It's, as they say on the mountain, "airish" tonight with a current temperature of 45°F, a breeze of 10 mph and the relative humidity at 89%. I do believe my skin may have gotten a little thin while down in the flatlands. But, hey, it's the perfect excuse for a wee nip of single malt, isn't it?
Courage.
