Vanished
So, after paying $26 for shots at the vet's and an interim stop at the grocery store for kitten food and cat litter, we bring Suzy Q home about 4:00 in the afternoon. By 5:30, she has disappeared. Completely, totally vanished into thin air.
The search begins. We find all kinds of lost things under beds and furnature, in closets and cabinets and everywhere else a 4-ounce kitten could possible hide. Nothing. We check the basement and outdoors. The kitten is gone.
We convince ourselves that she is just hiding and will come out at night after we have gone to bed. Nope. Sam shows no signs that a wild beast is on the loose in the house.
Twenty-four hours pass with no signs of Suzy Q. We are convinced she has made the great escape and is headed back to White Oak. We search the surrounding woods until sunset. No kitten.
Yesterday was our 39th wedding anniversary and we are half an hour late for dinner at the Senator's House. On our return home at 10:30, I offer to get the CFO another kitten.
Just before going to bed, the CFO goes to the kitchen for a glass of water.
Yup. Cat motor and meow sounds. Somewhere. Under the sink. Under the cabinet floor under the sink. A tiny head finally pops out of a tiny hole under the toe ledge at the bottom of the cabinet.
Suzy Q is back.
All we can figure is that she found the opening and crawled inside to sleep off the effects of the vaccinations for 30, or so, hours. Since coming out, she has eaten non-stop and her training of us continues.
The CFO is very happy and I'm happy for her.
Happy Anniversery!
