Beauregardless (1991-2007)
[White Oak, Alleghany County, NC]
After a period of rapidly declining health, Beauregardless Lineback died peacefully yesterday of a lethal injection at the Twin Oaks Animal Hospital. He was 15.5 years of age.
An AKC-registered Lhasa Apso, Beau was born on a puppy farm in Kansas but spent his entire life in Cary, NC as a beloved family pet. He showed little academic interest or promise but did attend the Mayfair Puppy School where he refused to go through the puppy tunnel required for graduation. Beau was never gainfully employed. Never one to chase sticks, his only hobby was eating. And, much to their mother’s chagrin, he also loved to smell babies.
Although not an academic sort, Beau was a smart dog in his own way. He was trained early on to answer the calls of nature outdoors, for which he was given a doggie treat upon his return. In short order he began demanding to go outdoors more freqently where he would raise a leg, perform a false call of nature, and quickly return to the house to demand his biscuit.
Beau's only official chore around the Lineback house was guard dog. In reality, however, when not begging or eating, Beau can usually be found sleeping.
Beau loved bananas, fruit cake, green beans, breads (especially crunchy toast and pizza crusts), cakes, pies, ice cream, and -- most of all -- barbecue. When Dave headed out to the barbecue compound, Beau was always the first one out the door because he just knew Dave was going to drop a cooked shoulder one of these years and leave the whole thing there on the ground for him. Always displaying a keen interest in the barbecue making process, Beauregardless was the consummate cooking companion.
Old Beau was buried during a private ceremony on Sunset Ridge, in a grave under a mountain laurel, among a grove of wild lily-of-the valley.
Thanks for being such a great companion for all of us, Beau. You will be missed.
"Oh, man, I know that barbecue is around here somewhere. I can smell it!"
