Mouse Mystery Solved
It seemed very strange that that mouse make an appearance in broad daylight the other morning, especially with one of us vile humans about. My first thought was that the Great Spirit was trying to tell me that house mice were my power animals. But, alas, the mystery is now solved in a more prosaic way.
The mice we have as living companions in winter are white-footed field mice and like their second cousin, the squirrel, they are gatherers of nuts and seeds. And, when I disassembled the gas cook top to clean it this morning, I found his trove of pecans and pinto beans in the bottom.
So, when I turned on the burner to cook breakfast, the bugger was suddenly between a rock and a hard place. When things got hot enough, he apparently deemed the risks of death by fire greater than death by whatever evil might be out lurking out there in the daylight. Thus, our strange encounter.
Little did he suspect that the real danger was a little Smucker's peanut butter on the hair trigger of a Victor.
SNAP!
Life comes at you fast sometimes ... often when you least expect it.
