Once Upon a Time
Once upon a time there was this charismatic fellow over in the Middle East whose monotheistic teachings started a major new religion. However, upon his departure from Earth, his followers got into a spat over who should drive the bus after he was gone. The vast majority (85 to 90%) thought whoever was most qualified should get the job. However, a much smaller minority (10 to 15%) thought only descendants of this fellow's family were qualified to be the bus driver. And, further, they contended that their familial bus driver was infallible.

Recognize these brothers in arms? They are the three branches of Abrahamic monotheism.
The first group, of course, are the Muslims with their majority Sunni sect and minority Shia sect. The majority of the minority are located in Iraq, Iran and Yemen.
The second group are the Christians with their Catholic and Protestant sects. Their battles have raged for centuries, with the most current hot spot being Ireland/Northern Ireland.
And, the final group are the Jews with Orthodox, Conservative, Reformed and other smaller sects who are trying to run a unified Jewish state while staving off their Muslim cousins who dispute the Jew's sole claim to the land.
