12 Bones

During our visit to Asheville, Matteo, the CFO and I had lunch at a place called 12 Bones. It's so named because pigs have twelve ribs to a side. The joint, down by the French Broad River, is open only from 11:00 to 4:00 daily. You get in a line (looong at 12:30) to place your order at a central counter and they bring it to you when it is done.

The ribs are outstanding and the pulled pork and chicken are OK by western NC standards. The collards and the corn pudding are out of this world. In fact, all the vegetables (you get to pick two) are very good except the baked beans. They also have locally-brewed beers on tap (Highlands and French Broad).

The ribs are $8 for a half side and $16 for a full side.

If you are in Asheville or are passing by on I-40, go there for lunch, folks.

You will be glad you did!
