Appalachian Temple Bell
After two weeks I've finally finished my latest piece of sculpture, "Appalachian Temple Bell", and here it is installed in the Alleghany Arts & Crafts store.
The bell, weighing about 120 pounds, rings an F# (above high C) when struck. The whole thing is 6.5 feet tall and weighs about 300 pounds!
The Donald suggested adding the wooden beams at the top. That cost him a couple of trips into the woods for logs and several hours of deadwood removal and clean. Tom R. did the heavy welding of the chain to the top of the bell. Thanks, guys.
The bell was some kind of hydraulic cylinder that I found at the scrap metal yard and had one end removed by sawing. The metal frame and wooden feet are from the Alleghany County dump.
You just cannot beat a junk yard for sculpting materials!
