Hummers

We have an abundance of hummingbirds on the mountains. As I have sat in my Lounge Lizard on the deck, I've often seen them perched on branches in the tree above me or mountain ivy below me. Sometimes they fly through the house and, on occassion, go crashing into the window panes.

So, I bought a couple of inexpensive hummingbird feeders and installed then on the deck railing in hopes of gaining a closer and clearer view of them.

And, finally, I was able to photograph one while it was feeding.

Considering that the Ruby-throated Hummingbird (Archilochus colubris) is the only hummingbird that nests in North Carolina, I suppose that's what these are.

They are fiesty little buggers, participating in territorial dogfights over the feeders. And, Suzy Q, as you might guess, finds them to be quite entertaining.
