Weather and the Lottery
I wanted to check on the weather in Cary today and went to wunderground.com to find a personal weather station (PWS) there. Here's the map of PWS's in the Raleigh area.
Now each little dot represents the location of a PWS and you will notice there's not a single one inside the beltline (ITB) or between I-40 and US-70 before Johnston County.
Seems that I remember seeing a map of lottery sales in Wake County recently in the Noise and Disturber and the ponderance of sales were ITB and between I-40 and US-64, exactly where there are no PWS's.
Hmmm. Gamblers don't follow the weather? Or, perhaps, PWS owners don't gamble? Nope.
Here's the population of Wake County shown as percent of persons who are Black or African American according to the 2000 US Census.
Is it cultural, economic or what? For whatever the reasons, good or bad, PWS and lottery tickets are clear indications that in 2007 Black and White communities are, to a great extent, still living in their own separate worlds.
