Pete Jones Pit: 7
So I was ready to put the metal roofing on Pete today. But, what to do? Well, I did have a load of garbage ready for the dump and that would be a good opportunity to scout out the place.
I was half expecting a sign at the front gate saying something like "No Scavenging" with "(and that includes YOU Dave Lineback)" in small print below. But, alas, there were no new signs and everything seemed back to normal EXCEPT the junk metal had been removed from the collection area, taken to the sorting area, pounded to smithereens, and loaded on the trailer used to haul it to the scrap metal dealer. In the past the junk metal was taken to the sorting area and left for folks to scavenger before being pounded to smithereens. Hmmm. I may have lost an important asset to a simple change in procedure. There's always more than one way to skin a cat!
So it was that I had to go into town and actually buy NEW metal roofing from Blevins Building Supply. That's our local version of Lowes or Home Depot with stores in Sparta, Glade Valley, Mt. Airy, Galax and (talking about guts) North Wilkesboro (the home of Lowes). They've no competition within a round trip of 60 minutes, but at least they gave me the contractor's discount.
And, here's Pete all decked out in a roof of new metal. The pit reminds me a little of one of those above ground burial crypts or maybe a well house. It just needs a little beautification. Bob in Ga, how about a replica of the cupola on the Skylight Inn?
I can almost hear that pig squeal!
