Italia: Day 15

The last day before leaving. What to do? We had a potluck dinner planned for the evening with everyone making something to use the remaining food in the house. And I had promised to make pizza in the ancient beehive oven at the back of the farmhouse. So, a return visit to Florence was out of the question.

We decided instead on a peaceful drive through the beautiful Tuscan countryside ...

... to the little village of Pienza ...

... an old fortress town ...

... with a commanding view of the countryside ...

... and the obligatory church inside.

It happened to be the Pienza market day and we bought the vegetable ingredients for the pizza there.

On the way back we passed near Montalcino where the famously expensive Brunelli wines are made.

A rose is planted at the end of each row because if will be attacked by any disease before the grape vines are affected.

In the gloom of the crud growing in my head and chest, I headed to bed as soon as possible after making the pizzas.
