Italia: Day 2
OK, the boat left at 8:30 and today was our Venice day. The city is quite a bit like New Orleans except the streets are most canal with water taxis and buses for public transportation.
The buildings are all built on pilings in what was a marsh..
What streets there are here are quite narrow and filled with pickpockets.
It's all quite beautiful with more boats than cars. In fact, I did not see an automobile today!
There's quite a Moorish influence on this city built on commerce.
Here's San Geogio's Church with the Georgian architecture that influenced the US capitol building, Montecello, etc.
We finished off the day with a gondula ride ...
... quite nice.
And, of course, with an after dinner Bellini at the famous Harry's Bar where Hemingway once hung out in Venice.
PS: Our baggage arrived from Frankfurt today, much to the olfactory relief of our traveling companions.
