It's Cold
Yup, the Canadian cold front arrived early this morning bearing a low temperature of 6°F with wind gusts of 35mph. That combination produces a wind chill of -40°F, folks. Don't think I'll do much outside this day!
The crows are determine to fly up the valley below Low Notch Gap into the wind. It's a hoot. Some of the gusts are at air speeds greater than they can fly. As I look out my window at them (on eye level), they are sometimes flying at zero or negative ground speeds, giving the visual effect of a crow hovering or flying backwards. After a few moments of this, they will go into a shallow dive to pick up air speed and wait for a break in the wind to regain altitude. Not even crows are fond of flight stalls.
All we got of the white stuff was a dusting with no accumulation. Bummer.
As the front began moving in yesterday afternoon, I saw a snow shower coming from the northwest over the Peach Bottom Mountains. The skies to the southwest were crystal clear. When the snow showers arrived here, snow was falling in the sunshine. I cannot remember ever seen that before.
