Nothing Like The Masters
The Masters Invitational Golf Tournament will we upon us in a week or so and there truly is nothing in sports like The Masters.
The First and Second Round coverage this year will be provided by ESPN with Mike Tirico as host. Tirico, who is very good at what he does, is excited. "I've done 11 British Opens for ABC but this will top everything I've done in golf -- absolutely. You can argue that Augusta National is the most special place in sports."
End of story? Nope.
In the USA Today piece I saw, it was written that "Tirico's role at The Masters might be especially noted, given his African-American and Italian heritage."
Why bring that up? What does it add?
That a broadcaster of African and European background will provide media coverage of a golfer of African and Asian background who will likely beat the pants off the other invitees of any and all backgrounds at the upcoming festivities in Augusta, just ain't news these days.
