I Love Brown

Today marks the second anniversary of my retirement and that means yesterday was my birthday, the Sixty-Second Annual Dave's Still Here Day. I knew that because Brown has been wearing out my driveway this week!

First up was a package bearing four CBH tee-shirts in three very nice colors. (It's the Carolina blue you are wondering about.) I first suspected Thriller but, no, it seems that they are from Bliss. How sweet of a married woman like that to remember an old man on his birthday! Thanks, Bliss.

Next came a package bearing another set of flatware in the Colonial Boston style that matches the set we already have. We now have enough pieces to go around when everyone's on the mountain. This one was from Thriller because the packing list said "Happy Birthday. Hope this arrives in time." It did and thanks, Thriller.

Yet a third package bore two very nice stainless steel "compost pots" and are, I suspect, an anticipated-for-late-delivery Father's Day gift from Thriller. I take this as a hint that my grandparent's enameled chamber pot I currently use is not fully appreciated by others as much as by me. I further take it that one is for Air Bellows and the other is for the Flatlands. Anyhow, rotting fruits and vegetables never had it so good!

The biggest surprise of all was the Gator 150 motor scooter manufactured by Shanghai Shenke Motorcycle Manufacturing Co.,Ltd. of Shanghai, Peoples Republic of China that came driving up the driveway this afternoon!

Actually this is the second one. The first, a Gator 50, with a 50-cc engine, I liked even better because it required no license tag and no insurance. And, it got 125 miles per gallon on level terrain. But, alas, the Gator 50 had to go back home because it would not drag my big ole butt up the hill by the side of the house.

The Gator 150, weighing in at 385 pounds with a 150-cc engine, is a beast of a machine but requires a license tag and insurance. Before accepting the scooter, I checked out the cost of insurance with my insurance agent. She called back in about ten minutes with a quote of $44.41 ... a year. (The Geico gecko wanted $69.58 for the same coverage.) That's 12.2 cents per day. She asked (and this is really true) if I wanted to pay on a monthly basis! I bit the bullet and went for paying the annual premium in a lump sum.

So, that's it, folks. The 62nd is history.

I'd like to thank everyone again and especially whoever it was (the CFO perhaps?) that gave me the motor scooter!
