Give Me a Hand
This is my left hand. The bones connecting the knuckles to the wrist bones are the metacarpal bones. They are numbered 1 to 5 beginning with the thumb.
You might notice the 3rd metacarpal bone is slightly ajar at the knuckle in both x-ray images. Also, the 5th (above) and 3rd (below) are shattered. This has resulted in a grotesque selling of the hand.
Although these abnormalities would eventually heal themselves to some extent, that general picture is not a good one in the long haul. Accordingly, I'll be going under the knife tomorrow for the first time in my life of 62 years.
And so it is that, following surgery, I'll be joining my golfing buddy Tiger on the injured reserve list for a while.
