Local Snails
Weather good for mushrooms is also good for land snails and here's one I saw on a shiitake log yesterday.
Now, please don't ask me what species this land snail might be because identification of them looks to be about as difficult as identification of ferns. So, let's just call it an Air Bellows land snail and go from there.
Having given up identification, I moved on to snail anatomy. Now, let me tell you, snails are weird creatures.
The stalks on the head contains the eyes. And, the smaller protrusions on the lips are tentacles. Snails are hermaphrodites and both sets of genitalia terminate in the neck. Gives a whole new meaning to necking, I'd say.
Land snails live about fifteen years on average when they manage to avoid getting eaten or stepped on.
