I've been making an effort this summer to formally identify the wild trees and shrubs here on the mountain. The list to date includes:

Eastern Hemlock

White Pine

Great Laurel

Mountain Laurel

Catawba Rhododendron

Flame Azalea

Mountain Holly

American Holly

Witch Hazel

Mountain Sweetpepper Bush

Sarvisberry

Pawpaw

Wild Cherry

Red Maple

Mountain Maple

Mountain Magnolia

Northern Red Oak

White Oak

Chestnut Oak

Black Gum

Black Locust

Yellow Tulip Poplar

Additionally, we have/had:

Hickory (yet unidentified species)

Sassafras (accidentally cut down during construction)

Beech/Birch (?)

I'm certain we have a few more that I haven't yet noticed.
