Murphy Update
I've been asked how Murphy is getting along.
He's doing very well. He has full use of his forearm and some use of his elbow and forearm. We have indications that he has some feeling in his foot but his wrist is still not functioning. I've spoken to a number of vets and they all seem to indicate that six months is something of a magic time for nerves to heal themselves. So, we still have hope.
Murphy goes on regular romps in the woods with Sam and me. He lifts his fingers with his forearm to avoid injuring them. Sometimes when running downhill he is able to actually get his fingers on the ground in a normal fashion. He has shown no signs of the self-mutilation that often occurs with dogs having a paralyzed limb.
He has become quite adept at running three legs and can keep up with Sam. His right leg is now nearly twice the size as the left. He tires more quickly these days and will somethings return home during a romp to rest.
Murphy and Sam still enjoy an occasional tousle. It is a more even match these days, but Murphy still more than holds his own.
And, best of all, he is still his same happy, goofy Murph.
Thanks for asking!
