A Crumpet of Socrates for Your Tea

It is to Socrates that we most likely owe the concept of the endowed philosopher who should rule. A virtuous person was born, not made by their environment, he argued. In short, you've either got it or you don't. And, only those who who've "got it" should rule.


Interestingly, Socrates did not seek to rule. He claimed himself to be a philosopher in pursuit of Truth that he had not yet fully come to know. Accordingly, he did not completely know how to live his own life and, as such, he felt inadequate to tell others how to live theirs.

And, that folks, is a most noble view.
