A Progressive Christmas
Along the lines of it being better to give than receive, the Big Idea (mine) was to the spread the Christmas joy this year by enabling all members of the family to actively participate in the celebration. So it was we made Christmas dinner and gift-giving a progressive affair.
It all began with appetizers and drinks at our Cary townhouse. Here's Matteo and Biscuit (formerly known as Alia) caught arriving on the Wildview Xtreme 2 motion-activated wildlife camera that the CFO gave me. (More on this magical machine later.)
After a round of nibbling and gifting it was off to the main course at Thriller and The Breeze's house.
Here's The Breeze pulling the fried turkey he cooked for us from the cooker.
The whole crew assembled for dinner: Thriller, The Breeze, Biscuit, Dave (photographer), Matteo, The CFO, Wawa, Da Bear and Spud. What a meal! Fried turkey, collards, green beans, sweet potatoes, cranberry relish, bread and butter.
Spud has his eye on the animated reindeer that Thriller and The Breeze gave the CFO.
Then it was off to Wawa and Da Bear's place for deserts: peanut cookies, date bars and Mexican cookies made by Biscuit, Apple and pear crumble by Wawa and Moravian sugar cake by the CFO with spiced apple cider and coffee.
Kyle shows off some more of his Christmas loot at home.
I thought the whole affair, a good seven hours in duration, was wonderful and I enjoyed it tremendously.
There was a bit of grumbling that everyone had to clean their house for the event and the suggestion was made that we rotate houses on a yearly basis (presumably in order that houses need be cleaned only every four year). Asheville was nominated for 2009.
