Surprise
On the way into town today I stopped by the county dump with my most recent collection of garbage and recycle materials. In the building that houses the recycle materials, bins are provided for newspapers, cardboard, #1 plastic, #2 plastic, tin cans, green glass, brown glass, clear glass and aluminum cans. The brown glass bin usually contains some longneck beer bottles that are recapped. But, I dared not take any lest I be accused of stealing from the county.
Today the fellow who runs the recycle program was there and I asked him what I needed to do to acquire a few of the beer bottles.
"Take 'em all", he said.
Turns out the county has to pay to dispose of all the glass in the "recycle" bins. They sell all the plastic, paper and metal recycle materials. But not the glass.
As Gomer Pyle would say, "Surprise, surprise, surprise!"
Why we sort them into colors only to throw away, I do not know.
