Still Around
I'm still around, folks. It's just that the coffee shop has taken on a life of it's own, requiring the attention of a new-born baby.
Sales volume has reached that I had hoped to achieve six months hence. Specifically, it's about the maximum I want to handle without hired help. The decision now is whether to "grow" the business further (in order to afford hired help) or to settle in at the present level for a spell and recoup some sunk costs. Decisions, decisions.
I continue to add vendors of "arts and crafts". Just today we added Jim Sigfried's trout flies. He ties some 2700 different ones and matches them to the size and season, fly by fly, stream by stream. Prices range from $1.50 a fly to $350 each. He also ties salmon and salt water flies and, for a price, will teach you how to. Additionally, he will take you fishing as a guide anywhere between Charleston, SC and Bangor, ME. He's quite an interesting fellow.
The bakery business is a pleasant surprise and I'm now taking orders for baked goods. The idea was just to make pastries for the coffee bar but ...
The only disappointing aspect of the shop is sales of arts and crafts. Lots of looking but little buying. I think it's related to the economy.
I'm looking into wine by the drink and bottle, sandwich "kits" and music events.
Stay tuned.

Will we be seeing a wood burning brick oven in your future?
ReplyDeleteSometimes bigger is not always better......
ReplyDelete.....I might add, that if you try to be everything to everybody, and try to make everyone happy, then you will be the one who is unhappy.
ReplyDeleteThe wine idea is still a good one.
ReplyDeleteI was sceptical about the "arts & crafts" in the first place. Is Sparta a place to find the respective clientele?
