Sign of the Times
There stands — sorta kinda — on the NC-18 and US-21 corner of the Alleghany Courthouse Square a small sign, not unlike that of a realtor's "For Sale" sign, advertising a "brush arbor" tent revival. I say sorta kinda because it has moved to and fro from vertical at the whelm of the wind for a week now. This is, in my mind, a remarkable event considering that I have never seen a sign of any kind, for any purpose, displayed on the courthouse square.
What to do?
When one of the county commissioners was in for coffee one day last week, I inquired if the county owned the courthouse property. It does. I asked if he had seen the sign. He professed not to have done so. Naturally I pointed it out to him from the front window of the shop. He groaned and suggested that I let sleeping dogs lie.
Hmmmm.
The North Carolina Piedmont Church of Wicca are holding their Litha (festival of the summer solstice) at noon on June 20 in the picnic shelter area of Kings Mountain State Park. I'm thinking they are in dire need of an announcement posted on the NC-18 and US-21 corner of the Alleghany Courthouse Square.
Hey, it's a free country ... ain't it?
