The forecast is for REALLY cold weather with a HIGH of 10°F (-12°C) on Monday and THEN we get dumped on with "another round of significant 'northwest flow' mountain snows that could last into the middle of next week." And Ray ain't hardly never wrong neither. Nope, none of that Namby Pamby ABOVE 10°F (-12°C) for us next week.

Now I figure my water pipes will freeze slam shut sometime about Sunday and that's why the bathtub is filled with an assortment of bottles filled with water. The soda bottles contain potable water and the others contain ... uh ... water. For fighting house fires, you understand. Or maybe even a daily flushing of the toilet. Whatever.

I've been stocking up the larder for a week now and should be able to make it for a good week or two with current levels of provisions. More firewood is on the way and I'm hoping for a propane refill before the driveway becomes impassible ... again.

I turned the heat pump off last weekend (I refuse to use the "blue light special" resistance heating strips) and have been heating with a combination of fireplace and propane "wood stove" upstairs and real wood stove in the basement. Maintaining 62°F (17°C) has worked so far, but the "real" stuff isn't here yet.

Or, I could bail out and hightail it down to Cary.

Nah. Surely it will not be THAT bad.

Send Lagavulin and cigars!
