The blackberry canes in the Hillside Garden are now loaded with blossoms. The fight with the crows for the blackberries will soon be on!

Blackberries are interesting plants because each cane lives two years. The canes that will bear fruit next year are now making their appearance. This years canes are now blossoming and will bear fruit. After the second year the canes die. You can see the stumps here for this seven year old plant. The roots, of course, are used to make tobacco pipes.
