Air Bellows Weather and Webcam
I've added a new Weather and Webcam page to myWebsite for the house here in Whitehead. It's at http://www.davelineback.com as Weather in the menu at the top of the page.
Weather data is collected by a Davis Vantage Pro station and automatically uploaded by an in-line FTP server (that is part of the weather station) to a database at Davis Instruments. From there the data is automatically distributed to my Personal Weather Station (KNCSPART3) at http://www.wunderground.com. My new Web page gets data from there and provides a link back to wunderground.com for complete details.
The Webcam looks to the north towards Virginia. The image is acquired from the camera by a software program running on an ancient desktop computer here in my loft. After date and time stamps are added, the computer acts as an FTP server to automatically upload a new image to my Website every 10 minutes. And, that's the image that appears on the Weather page. I have done live Webcam feeds in the past but that requires a dedicated IP address and my ISP wants a fortune for that. So, no live feed ... for now.
A link to Ray's Weather is also provided because they provide the best local weather forecasts. The are in located in Boone and really understand how mountain weather works.

Hey Dave,
ReplyDeleteIt's great to see the there is weather on the mountain! Have you checked into DynDNS (http://www.dyndns.com/)? It's free and works great, as long as you don't expect to stream HD through it.
