Don't Take Your Gun to Town Son

 A 22-year-old Winston-Salem man and two 20-year-old Winston-Salem men were injured a drive-by shooting yesterday on Ladeara Crest Lane in the heart of the part of Winston-Salem that is predominantly populated by blacks. Same old, same old. Blacks shooting blacks is a daily event there.

In the above crime map of weapons violation for the past 4 weeks that part of Winston-Salem that is predominantly populated by black is easily identified. It's that blob of blue dots at the top and center of the map. By comparison, the area in the upper left is that part of Winston-Salem that is predominantly populated by whites.The area in the half is that part of Winston-Salem that is mixed white, black and Latino.

Some will argue that the police are targeting black areas more than white areas. It's true. Our black police chief who retired December 31, 2022 have increased police presence there because of the high rates of crime including weapons violations, assaults and murders. 

But weapons violations involve guns being fired by someone and reported by someone else to the police. That's not police targeting blacks. That is blacks targeting blacks. 

Every time a young black is killed there, the mother will almost always appear in a television report begging for someone to do something about the crime in their neighborhood. I suggest that that someone should be the mothers of the killers. Had the mothers of the killers done their job of being a parent as did those mothers in the white neighborhoods, the sons of those anguished mothers who lost their sons would likely still be alive today.
