Consciousness and Oranges
If you have the ability for normal "color" vision and you look at look at the image on the left normal you have conscious awareness of three oranges in a field of what you perceive as having the color "white". But if you are wearing glasses with "blue" lenses you will have no conscious awareness of the three oranges . and will perceive of only a black colorless geometric shape in the center of a field of what you perceive as having the color "blue". You were consciously aware of the very same things perceived by the conscious mind in two entirely different ways.
In the first instance you consciously perceive a visual image that you have learned as that of three oranges by means of color, shape and texture. In the second image you can only consciously perceive a visual image of black geometry shape from which you have not learned as nothing other than a black geometry shape. But what this image could be the shape of? Billiard balls? Cookies? Oranges? You don't know because consciousness has failed you or, more accurately, fooled you.
But let us take this experiment one step further and paint the oranges the same color "blue" as the lens of your glasses. Of what then are you consciously aware? Absolutely nothing other than a field of light having what you perceive as having the color "blue".
Now your conscious brain form no image of three oranges or of a black geometry shape. It only forms an image of a field of light of what you perceive as having the color "blue". You are conscious of nothing else whatsoever. The oranges are still there but you have no conscious awareness that they are.
And so it is that consciousness is a window to to the world of existence. But it is not a window to all the world of existence. Indeed, much of existence hides behind our consciousness and sometimes even deceives us of its reality.
