Father's Day 2006

Well, I received greeting from all the children this Father's Day. Not that I solicit anything for it or, indeed, even remember there is such a thing as Father's Day. After all, the children had absolutely no say in my becoming their father and, unlike the names we chose for them, they can never change that; genes is genes, as they say. Anyhow, I'm truly grateful they did remembered.

From Wawa it was a card with a picture on the front of a guy in the woods with a backpack and walking stick, asking the question "If Dad farts in the woods, does it make a sound?" On the inside, all kinds of wild creatures pop out from beind the trees with a resounding "Yes!" Hmmm... Maybe I've taken this outdoor thing a little too far.

From Triller it was a card with a picture on the front of an old geezer making a number of distorted faces and stating that "There are some jobs worse than being a father." On the inside it says "Like being the water taster at a sewer plant." A classic Thriller card, right up there with the famous "egg" Mother's Day card of a few years ago.

After those two cards, I was greatly relieved to find that Matteo had left a simple "Happy Father's Day" message on the answering machine.
