Back on the Mountain
Hello, everyone.
Yup, I'm back on the mountain since last Thursday and have been as busy as a one-armed wallpaper hanger with the hives.
When I got back, you understand, I found that Billy had had a baby. Bambino. A kid, in goat parlance. Yes, that right, Billy is a she. A female. A doe, in goat parlance. Just goes to prove, once again, that I don't know jack about goats!
Anyhow, both Billy and Little Billy are doing just fine. I did rename her Billy Jean for technical reasons but I'm still going to call her Billy for short.
Now we know why Billy had such a strange appetite: she was pregnant and really wanted pickles and chocolate ice cream.
The good thing is that Billy is now "lactating" in profusion. Giving milk. And, that's a good thing because a dose of goat milk everyday is reported to be an excellent thing for one's health. Drink up!
The weather has been excellent since I got back and the dogs and I have been in the woods quite a bit. One day we dug ferns for transplating in the gardens around the house. On two other days, we (make that I) did trail maintenance, raking leaves, repainting blazes, etc. We had had a pretty good blow while I was gone and some of the blow-down required the use of my chainsaw for removal. Good exercise all.
The fish in Stone Lake have survived winter so far. They were out and about, taking a sun bath, as it were, I suppose. I gave them a few food pellets and they acted surprised that manna was falling from Heaven in the dead of winter. Stupid fish.
Thriller gave me a grain mill attachement for my KitchenAide mixer while I was in the flatlands and I used it to make some cornmeal for feeding Billy. (Seems that freshly ground corn is good for nursing mother goats.) The thing worked like a charm.
It's raining today and I'ved been in the basement, working on the shelves for Thriller's new television.
And, in my spare time, I'm building a Web site for the CFO. It's been a while since I built one from scratch and I'm a little rusty. It reminds me too much of work, but I've got to earn my keep, you know.
The Web site incorporates a secure chat feature using AIM Pro (AOL Instant Messenger Pro). That's a pretty neat thing and it's truly free of charge. If you want to try it, go to http://aimpro.premiumservices.aol.com/ and sign up for an account. My Screen Name is DaveLineback1946 (without a space) and I keep my AIM Pro window open ... just in case the CFO logs in. Anyhow, just imagine the conversations that the diverse viewers of this blog might have as a group! It would be breakfast on a rainy Saturday morning all over again ... without the grease.
Gotta go. Billy needs milking.
And, the house needs cleaning ... always.
Not to mention that all important afternoon nap looms in the background!
