Sign of the Times
The forecast has been for rain showers all day. Yet, it hasn't. Just overcast with brief bursts of sunlight.
The dogs and I took a little stroll and found a new sign. It's down in the woods where the tractor road to the garden crosses the Sunset Trail. Hmmmm. Where is Cary anyhow?
Another sign of the times are the sarvisberry trees with their white blossoms standing in stark contrast with the dark of the hills and leafless trees. They are the very first trees to blossom in spring.
The berries are an important food source for wildlife and the old people made sarvisberry preseves with them. I'm luck to have eight or ten sarvisberry trees scattered throughout the woods.
The various wild orchids are beginning to sprout as well. Here is a specimen of rattlesnake plantain (Goodyera pubescens) poking its head through along the trail.
