On Equality

"We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal ..."

What hogwash!

Some are born into wealth, others into poverty. Some are born with strong minds, others with strong back, others with neither, others with both. Some are born with athletic skill, others are as clumsy as an ox. Some are born sighted, others not. Some are born with genes free of Downs Syndrome and other genetic disorders, others are not. Etc., etc., etc.

No, the truth is that no two individuals are ever created equal.

What can be written as a truth and made a fact is "all men are created equal before the law."

Interestingly, however, that was apparently not what our founding fathers — who had wives and owned slaves — had in mind. Rather, I can only speculate that what they meant was "all free men are born equal before the law".

If this be the case, then free men, wives and slaves had different kinds of truths in 1776.
