US Depressions
In the roughly 200 years since capitalism has come to replace mercantilism as the primary economic system in the United States, the economy has been technically "depressed" for a total of 37 years or 18% of the time. These include the depressions of 1807-1814, 1837-1844, 1873-1879, 1893-1899, and 1929-1941.
Only one (1807-1814) was triggered by trade restrictions.
Hmmmm.
