Full Moon

What is it about animals and the moon?

Last night's moon, shown here just above the tree line and partially obscured by clouds, was nearly full and Murphy went nearly nuts. Indeed, I let him out about 9:00 pm to "take care of business" and could not get him back inside until nearly 1:00 am. He roamed around and barked at something the whole time.

Science is ambivalent about the association between a full moon and the behavior of man, dogs and other animals. Perhaps part of the problem is defining the strangeness of full-moon behavior. Indeed, "squirrelly" is about as good as I can do. And, if it's all just a myth, so be it. Facts alone, as we well know, are insufficient for living our lives and mythology fills in the gaps between them.
